The World Resources Institute (WRI) is a leading global environmental research organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1982, WRI’s mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and improve people’s lives. IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Innateness, is a membership union of governments and non-governmental organizations that provides leadership and encourages partnerships in the conservation of character. IUCN’s work focuses on four broad areas:

• Protected areas: IUCN helps to establish and manage protected areas around the world.
• Sustainable use of natural resources: IUCN promotes the sustainable use of natural resources, such as forests and fisheries.
• Climate change: IUCN works to speak to the impacts of climate modify on nature and people.

     World Resources Institute Offices – Washington DC

     World Resources Institute (WRI) envisions an equitable and prosperous planet driven by the management of natural resources. Based in Washington, DC, WRI is a global research firm spanning over 50 countries that turns big ideas into action at the nexus of environment, economic opportunity and human well-being to help cultures thrive.

     After evaluating multiple short term and long term scenarios and new real estate options, WRI opted to stay in their current building for a complete space renovation. The design team worked closely with WRI to incorporate new strategies to accommodate a collaborative and transparent organization.

     Comprised of mostly closed offices in the original space, the design team thoughtfully wove elements of open corners to add a mix of transparency for touches of personal inclusiveness. To depict the idea of transparency, a copious amount of glass was used on all private offices that occupy the interior space while workstations line the glass windows allowing natural light to permeate into the core space.
