Flinch Free is a Skill in Monster Hunter Wilds (MHWilds). Skills are granted to Hunters by their equipped Weapons, Armor, Talismans, and Decorations and play an integral role in a Hunter's progression.

Flinch Free Effect

Flinch Free is increased in level based on the amount of Equipment with this skill the hunter is using. Each level works as follows:

• Level 1: Prevents knockbacks. Increases some Kinsect extract effects.
• Level 2: Prevents knockbacks. Tripping is reduced to a knockback. Increases some Kinsect extract effects.
• Level 3: Prevents knockbacks and tripping. Increases some Kinsect extract effects.

When using Insect Glaive, each level of Flinch Free also grants one level of Earplugs, Windproof and Tremor Resistance for as long as triple buff is active. These levels stack with the skills on the armor; e.g. having Flinch Free lv3, Earplugs lv2 and Windproof lv3 will grant Earplugs lv5, Windproof lv5 and Tremor Resistance lv2 when you have all three extracts.

Flinch Free Skill
Prevents knockbacks and other reactions to small damage.
Level			Effect
1			Prevents knockbacks.
2			Prevents knockbacks. Tripping is reduced to a knockback instead.
3			Prevents knockbacks and tripping.

Flinch Free will stop the Hunter's behavior from being interrupted when taking damage from attacks, preventing reactions like getting knocked back. At later levels, this includes being tripped by an attack.

Level 1 of Flinch Free will prevent Knockback reactions from the Seeker upon taking minor damage, as seen in the clip above where the Skill is active on the right-hand side of the two videos.

In addition to the prior level's effect, Level 2 of Flinch Free turns the Hunter's Tripping reaction against attacks that can knock them down into a Knockback reaction instead.

Level 3 of Flinch Free prevents both the Hunter from experiencing both Knockback and Tripping as reactions to damage.

How Does Flinch Free Work in Monster Hunter Wilds

A problem that a lot of players, both beginners and veterans, face in Monster Hunter Wilds is understanding the vague terminology being used in the game for Skill descriptions. While the in-game menus do detail what a skill does, the wording is often confusing, as unfamiliar terms are used to describe the effects, and there is a general lack of transparency that forces players to either go in blind or do extensive testing of their own.

The Flinch Free Skill is one such example. The skill description states it prevents knockbacks and tripping, but what knockbacks or tripping are is not explained. Here is how it works.
