Memorial Day Week?

Last year there were moderate crowds that week according to Touring Plans data. Also the last days before blocking are weekdays - maybe the evenings will be crowded but SoCal schools are in session then.

Last year had Pixar Fest which started in April and was kind of a bust. This year, Disneyland's 70th with a much anticipated parade, starts on May 16. The parade is in the evening which might help. However, when the Electric Parade returned, people packed the parade route hours in advance.

Schools being in session is not a good predictor of crowds at DLR. When locals go on vacation, they aren't going to Disneyland. That's part of the reason that visitors report July being such a nice month to visit. Additionally, don't assume that parents won't pull their kids the last week of school to go to Disneyland, especially if it is after AP exams, school is winding down, and it is the last week they can use their passes before being blocked.

While Los Angeles Unified School District might be the largest district, it is less than 15% of the southern California student population. Los Angeles Co

Visit Orlando & Disney for Memorial Weekend

If you want to kickstart your summer season with something special, then a visit to Orlando over Memorial Weekend is just the ticket. What better place to celebrate the start of summer than the happiest place on Earth? Here’s everything you need to know about spending Memorial Weekend in Orlando.

Weather & Crowds

Memorial Weekend in Orlando is typically warm and humid, with temperatures in the mid-80s to low 90s Fahrenheit, making it perfect for outdoor adventures and water park escapades. Be sure to pack sunscreen and stay hydrated during this time of year. There can also be occasional afternoon showers, so packing a light rain jacket is a good idea.

Given the holiday weekend and the start of summer vacation for many, you can expect crowds in Orlando to be a bit heavier compared to other times of the year. But with that said, many schools are still in session through the end of May, so crowds are not typically as bad as they be during the height of summer. Disney World and the surrounding theme parks tend to be busy all weekend, with peak crowds on Memorial Day, however many Disney enthusiasts consider May to be one

Our May 2026 Walt Disney World crowd calendar offers a guide to the month, weeks to visit & avoid, weather, new attraction openings & closures, and the kickoff of summer. Plus, other info & tips for Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios.

We like the month of May at Walt Disney Planet. For most people, earlier in the month is going to be better. However, even right around Memorial Day, crowds at Walt Disney World aren’t nearly as bad as you might expect for a holiday weekend at Walt Disney World. We’ve had wonderful visits during May in terms of weather, crowds, and entertainment.

The other good news is that May sees a reduced slate of refurbishments, longer park hours, and only moderate crowds. Most schools are still in session during May, so crowds are typically fairly uniform for most of the month. While many things are still up in the air for May 2026 at Walt Disney World, we do have a pretty good idea of what to expect. There’s actually a lot more upside to May, especially as compared to other summer months…

When is the best time to visit Walt Disney World? The answer is – it depends. There are a variety of factors that can affect crowds. It’s true, ANY day is a great day to visit Walt Disney World, but some days do have lighter crowds than others. Here are some examples of factors that affect crowd levels:

HOLIDAYS

Holidays affect crowds in Walt Disney World, with some more impactful than others. Holidays which include a long weekend (Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day) result in increased crowds vs. surrounding weeks but are not overly impacting. Independence Day, Easter, and Thanksgiving bring in moderate to heavy crowd levels, and the weeks before and during Christmas and New Year’s Eve bring significant crowds which frequently result in park closures due to the parks reaching maximum capacity. If you are flexible with your travel dates, avoiding any of the above holidays will result in visiting during less-busy times at Walt Disney World!
