Ashrita furman world records list
Ashrita Furman (born 16 September, 1954, Brooklyn, New York) is a member of Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team and holder of the most Guinness World Records. He has broken over 600 Guinness World Records, of which over 200 are current records. (October, 2016). When not setting Guinness records he manages a health food store in Queens, New York.
Ashrita grew up in New York, and in 1970 aged 16, he became a meditation student of Sri Chinmoy. Several years later, in 1979, Sri Chinmoy encouraged him to take part in a 24 hour cycle race and go further than he thought possible. Before the race Sri Chinmoy asked those participating to state how many miles they planned to do. Ashrita was going to say “200”. But, before he could say anything, Sri Chinmoy said: “Ashrita, what do you think, four hundred miles?” Furman just nodded feeling perhaps his Teacher saw something in him, that he didn’t see.
Crediting the power of meditation and spiritual techniques, on little training, Ashrita managed to cycle 405 miles in a 24 hour period - which was good enough for third place. This experience of self-transcendence encouraged Ashrita to have a go at breaking Guinness World Records - something that had
Ashrita Furman broke the world record for underwater hoola-hooping in Florida, where a pod of dolphins watched from afar—in what I presume was utter confusion.
I’ve been blessed enough to meet some lovely fascinating people. The voice of Porky Pig, a haunted property architect, a scientist who’s end to bringing back a T-Rex (albeit in a less menacing, chicken-sized form). But Ashrita Furman is in a league of his own. He has society records out the ying yang, including:
- The most matches put out on your tongue in a minute
- The most beer bottles opened with a chainsaw in 60 seconds
- The most watermelons sliced unlock on your stomach in one minute
He holds so many records that he snagged another one in the process: the earth record for the most earth records. He’s broken over 800 in total, with more than 200 still standing.
His secret?
Meditation.
(And a child-like sense of curiosity. Because when you can be anything, why be just one thing?)

Fun fact: Ashrita’s interview was conducted almost 3 years ago, and it’s finally seeing the light of day.

Ashrita Furman: Guinness World Records' most prolific record-breaker
There are many prolific record holders in the Guinness World Records (GWR) archives. But none of their achievements quite match those of title holder Ashrita Furman, from Brooklyn, New York, who has become famous as the man with the most Guinness World Records titles.
Over the past three decades, Ashrita has made it his life’s mission to break as many records as he can, eager to prove that anyone with a heartfelt dream and a determined mindset can be recognised by a world-renowned authority.
A sprightly 62 years old at the time of writing, Ashrita has set more than 600 records and currently holds over 200.
These titles cover a huge breadth of categories and an assortment of talents, varying from intrepid expeditions up the side of Mount Fuji by pogo stick to ambitious pursuits of spinning insanely large hula hoops around the body.
From these challenging endeavours, Ashrita has seized the opportunity to break records in nations around the world, meet others who share his passions for obtaining success and speak publicly about his achievements on several famous US talk shows.
However, despite
Ashrita Furman: World Record Holder for Most World Records
Jan. 16, 2011— -- On a frigid, blustery afternoon just outside the gate to the St. John' University outdoor track in Queens, a lithe but fit-looking middle-aged man climbs out of a battered sedan. He's wearing a fleece jacket and sweatpants. He places a gym bag on the ground and unzips it, revealing an odd assortment of items: a well-used pair of running shoes, two bowed metal objects that are eventually revealed to be stilts, a baseball bat, two golf clubs (left-handed and right-handed pitching wedges), some golf balls and two empty tuna fish cans.
He clambers over to the track, a good portion of which is still covered with the snow deposited by a recent storm, and begins to stretch and loosen up.
The man's name is Ashrita Furman, and he has the distinction of being the official Guinness World Record holder for holding the most world records. He's at the St. John's track on this icy winter day for one final round of practice before he will attempt to break the record for running the fastest mile with empty aluminum cans strapped to the soles of his shoes and held in place by stri
Man Sets World Record For 'Most World Records'
Ashrita Furman holds the most current Guinness World Records (GWR), with 121 titles under his belt, from setting records for juggling underwater while surrounded by sharks in a Malaysian aquarium to bouncing on a kangaroo ball on the Great Wall of China. In fact, his latest title was officiated by GWR judges just today (May 13).
Furman, 56, is nicknamed "Mr. Versatility" because of his ability to set new records in a wide range of GWR categories. He's been breaking and setting records since 1979, when he did 27,000 jumping jacks in a row. After setting the record, he noticed that the entry listed directly underneath his new title in the gymnastics section of the Guinness Book was for somersaulting.
"'Wow,' I thought, 'it would be cool to have two records right next to each other,'" Furman says on his website. In 1980, he gained the title by continuously somersaulting for 10 miles through a park in New York City. Six years later, he broke his own record when he somersaulted for 12 miles and 390 yards from Lexington to Charlestown, Mass., along the length of Paul Revere's historic ride.
