World record elk weight

On a hunting trip this past September, McKinleyville-area resident Timothy Carpenter shot and killed a Roosevelt bull elk so improbably massive that he still has trouble wrapping his mind around it.

“The antlers on the bull are so large it’s a little confusing,” Carpenter told the Outpost in a phone interview this week.

He estimates the elk’s weight at somewhere around 900 pounds, and photos reveal its tree-like antlers to be as tall as a pair of teenage boys. It’s a genetic anomaly, like the Shaquille O’Neal of elk.

“Exactly,” Carpenter agreed. “Honestly, I’m still trying to figure it out.”

Earlier this month, a special judges panel convened by the nonprofit Boone & Crockett Club carefully measured the elk’s rack, tallying the length of its two main beams and their numerous forked tines. (The elk was an 8x9, in case you’re counting.)

Once the judges completed their measurements and added up the numbers, Carpenter’s elk was confirmed as the new world record. The official score of 455 2/8 inches smashed the previous world record by more than 30 inches.

Longtime bowhunter and Hoyt pro staffer Casey Brooks has always dreamed of tagging a world-record elk. And on Dec. 31, he killed an absolute giant of a Rocky Mountain bull that has the potential to break both the Pope and Young and the all-time Boone and Crockett records. This is according to an Instagram post that was shared by Brooks’ son, Beau, and then re-shared on Hoyt Archery’s Facebook page. Brooks’ bull was given official green scores of 480 4/8 net and 490 4/8 gross, according to those posts.

“For as long as I can remember, my dad has been chasing giant bulls, coming incredibly close to this moment multiple times,” Beau wrote in his original post on Jan. 2. “Dad and his friends had been tracking this bull for years, finding sheds and keeping tabs on him.”

Details behind the hunt are slim, and neither Casey nor Beau responded immediately to requests for comment. Beau did not specify where his dad was hunting — only that he killed the bull in late December. But he tagged “Washingto

AMERICAN ELK NON-TYPIC world record elk weight

If you like seeing big bull elk… and I’m sure you do, check out this monster bull found this summer in Utah. He has been dubbed The Spider Bull and some people think that he will score around 500 or so. Wow. His mass is incredible, and points are going everywhere, but his inside spread is average to small. Score aside, nobody can say that he isn’t amazing, and EVERYBODY is talking about him. To append to this drama, a lot of hunters know where he is and are planning on chasing him during archery season. We’ll keep you posted as the season progresses.

Utah produces potential new world-record elk!

To add to the drama, the Utah DWR is wondering if the video of this bull is legit. None of their agents own seen him in the area he is said to roam.

The Spider Bull is Down!

On September 30, Denny Austad of Ammon, Idaho, hunted the Monroe Mountain District in south-central Utah. Austad paid for the Utah Governor’s Tag and was guided by MossBack Outfitters to the public-land giant on Sept. 30.

Guide Doyle Moss called the trophy “Spider Bull” for its antler configuration, which splayed out in all directions like a spider

Casey Brooks, an already renowned elk hunter, may have set a new archery world record with his latest harvest. On Dec. 31, 2024, Brooks successfully harvested a massive non-typical bull elk. Preliminary measurements suggest the bull could surpass existing records in both the Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett Club record books.

An official Boone & Crockett scorer provided a green score for the elk, indicating a gross measurement of 490 4/8 inches and a net of 480 4/8 inches. These figures exceed the current Pope & Young record held by the Felix Bull, which netted 430 inches, and the Boone & Crockett record for typical American elk, the Alonzo Winters Bull, which netted 442 5/8 inches.

Brooks, who already holds the third- and fourth-largest non-typical bull elk records in the Pope & Young Club, had been tracking this particular bull for several years. With the advantage of one of Washington state’s coveted raffle tags, he dedicated the 2024 hunting season to pursuing this exceptional animal. His commitment culminated on the final day of the hunt when the bull presented himself, and Brooks made a successful shot.
